Photoshop:: How To Make Image Using Refine Edge Oct 6, 2013 I'm practicing with Refine Edge and moving subjects from one image to another. What do you look for in an image that you use Refine Edge with to determine if it looks good/believable after an object or person is extracted from a background. Besides making sure that the edge is not jagged, hairs are not clumpy, details around an edge are not too soft, are there other things that will make someone looking at an image know that it was extracted from another location? How to Use the Refine Edge Tool. Begin by using whichever Selection Tool you prefer. In this episode, we use the Magic Wand Tool to select the sky around the lion, and then Invert that selection. Because the lion has so much detailed fluff, a lot of the sky shows through and the hair is not defined at all. Article Description This excerpt from Adobe Photoshop CS5 Classroom in a Book shows you how to use the Refine Edge option to improve the quality of a selection’s edge and see the edge more clearly by removing it from context and placing it against different backgrounds.
I have been using refine edge and the quick select tool and getting great results, its creates a layer each time but i cant work out how to show all the cut outs i can only seem to see one at a time instead of all the transparent background, i assume its something to do with layers and masking perhaps. May 4, 2013 I just noticed of some of images that Refine Edge creating a strange color around the selection, see my screen attached. Oct 3, 2013 I made a Quick Selection of a person and am using the Refine Edge tool with the goal of extracting the person from the image so I can place her somewhere else. I set the Smart Radius box, and Radius to about 2, smoothness to about 9, and then I take the Refine Radius tool. I start brushing around the edges of the hair to add missing strands to the selection.
1.) When brushing around the head, should the + that is in the middle of the brush be brushing on the very edge of the hair? Should it be touching both the edge of the hair and the background?
How does it work best? 2.) Do you only want to use the Refine Radius tool over areas of hair?
What else does it work well with? Jun 13, 2013 I'm trying the Refine Edge command to extract objects from images, Here's what I'm using: As you can see I've made the selection without any major problems, using the quick selection tool.

Or, at least trying to. I open up the feature and I adjust the settings to make the photo look like I want it to. Then I press 'OK' and everything disappears.
Then, while everything is still selected, I clicked on the pointer arrow to move the selected image to another canvas and the feathering effects don't carry over! Nothing sticks!? I have a book about Photoshop CS4, but it doesn't tell what to do when something doesn't work right. Aug 5, 2013 I am running CS5 and for some reason, the Refine Edge Brush doesn't appear as normal, It has been working fine in the past. Instead it's a circle with a line through it and I can't refine any edges, regardless of what view I select. I have restarted my PC, as well as Photoshop but I can't refine edge.
I sent the jpg to another PC with CS6 and it worked just fine. May 21, 2012 When using Refine Edge with a Wacom tablet is there any way to change the brush size (when using the Refine Radius and Erase Refinements tools) other than with pen pressure? I realise that most tablet users like changing brush size this way but personally I am more comfortable using the keyboard shortcuts.
Am using CS6 trial with mac Lion. Aug 24, 2012 I display an image and i take quick selection tool and make a circle or some formation and if I paint on either side of the selection I get a very distinct line of where I have paint and it is separated perfectly where the selection is. In other words where I painted it is pure and only the color I painted. And this the way it should be and the brush is 100% opacity.
